Job Title:
School Nurse Substitute (Pool)
Qualifications:
Each School Nurse Substitute must hold a current, unrestricted license issued by the South Carolina Board of Nursing to practice as a professional registered nurse (RN) or as a licensed practical nurse (LPN). A licensed practical nurse must work under the supervision of a professional registered nurse in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
Job Goal:
Provide temporary nursing coverage, as needed, to support the health and safety of students and staff. Administer medical assistance and first aid in accordance with district procedures, individual healthcare plans, physician orders, and applicable laws and regulations. Maintain accurate and confidential student health records and refer students and guardians to appropriate community agencies or healthcare professionals when necessary.

Performance Responsibilities:
Provides school nursing services at assigned schools on an as-needed basis.
Assesses student illnesses and injuries and provides appropriate first aid or medical assistance.
Dispenses prescription and non-prescription medications in accordance with physician orders, district procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
Follows students' individual healthcare plans, emergency action plans, and other medical protocols.
Maintains accurate, complete, and confidential student health records using the School Health Management Program, PowerSchool, and other district-approved systems.
Reviews, obtains, and maintains student immunization and other required health records.
Participates in health screenings and determines whether additional medical consultation, treatment, or follow-up may be necessary.
Communicates appropriately with parents, guardians, school administrators, the District Nurse, and healthcare providers regarding student health concerns.
Responds to medical emergencies and follows established district and school emergency procedures.
Maintains the confidentiality of student medical and educational information.
Complies with all applicable nursing standards, district policies, and state and federal laws.
Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
Terms of Employment:
This is an as-needed substitute pool position. Work assignments, locations, and schedules will vary based on district needs. Placement in the substitute pool does not guarantee a minimum number of assignments or work hours. Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience.
Evaluation:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy and district procedures.
