Job Description

OVERVIEW
The RN will supervise and coordinate medical care for all residents at the facility utilizing LPN staff and ensuring ongoing psychiatric and medical care. Accurately and completely assess and document medical problems, health needs, and provide nursing care for the residents of the facility. The RN will provide nursing care according to accepted standards of nursing care and best practice. DUTIES Maintain standards of nursing care and implement nursing policies and procedures through use of professional skills, training, and judgment. Evaluate performance of clinic staff and document accordingly. Ensure clinic functions and documentation are in compliance with all regulatory standards. Track, monitor, and ensure timely appointments for residents with the psychiatrist, nurse practitioners, mobile x-ray provider, and dentist. Ensure youth receive EPSD&T medical and dental services on time as required by DCS. Conduct and document post restraint medical assessment and mental status assessment. Order necessary medical supplies and maintain adequate inventories to provide appropriate medical care for residents. Ensure proper intake process is completed for new residents according to regulatory standards. Coordinate all off site emergency visits for residents and accurately report incidents to the Facility Administrator. Review and ensure clinic staff are conducting medication counts, sharps counts, equipment inventory, and medication destruction. Assess resident condition, needs, and evaluate the response to care given. Triage sick calls submitted by residents timely according to resident handbook. Respond to emergency situations involving residents on site such as physical restraints and any medical issues that restrict the ability of the resident's movement to the clinic. Accurately document in the residents' health record and all clinic logs. Accurately conduct and document medication, sharps, and equipment counts/inventory. Prepare resident medical charts. Set up and give medications according to physician and nurse practitioner orders. Accurately document medication disbursement, refusals, and errors on the residents' MARs. Assist psychiatrist and nurse practitioners, take orders/prescriptions, and assist with ordering medications from the pharmacy. When needed, complete blood draws, conduct urinalysis tests, and monitor the residents' needed immunizations. Maintain communication with providers, other departments, and family contacts. Schedule off-site medical appointments and arrange transportation through the transportation manager. Oversee the orientation of new staff members. Other duties as assigned by the Facility Administrator.
