What they do

A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Job Description

The substitute nurse will provide health services to students. This position is on an as-needed basis.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening
CPR Certification Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of health appraisal to identify student health defects Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Ability to implement policies and procedures
Experience:
Two years of nursing experience, preferably in community health
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Nursing Services Provide direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process, and established school health protocols. Serve as health advocate for students. Notify parents of accident or illness and secure medical care for students in emergency cases (if parents or emergency contact cannot be reached). Coordinate management system to administer medications to students at school. Administer medications according to district policy and procedures.
Equipment Used:
Thermometer, blood pressure cuff, audiometer, otoscope, sphygmomanometer, vision screening equipment, thermo scan, basic clinic equipment, personal computer, and copier.

$150.00 per day People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply
