Position Type:
Full-time Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical-surgical setting that meets the psychosocial, physical and general aspects of care for all age groups. Provides care and treatment to ill, injured and recovering patients. Performs general nursing duties within the RN Scope of Practice, and assists in other departments with appropriate supervision. Participates as primary nurse, team member or charge nurse in the planning, implementing and evaluation of patient care as needed. Supervised by Medical Surgical Supervisor.
Position Qualifications:
  • Current Texas Registered Nurse Licensure required.
  • Current BLS for healthcare professionals required at time of hire.
  • ACLS and PALS within 6 months of hire.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Additional languages preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
Essential Responsibilities:
Performs RN duties within the RN scope of practice with documented consistancy Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for patients based on evidence established by nursing practice standards. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and safe patient care and achievement of desired patient outcomes. Performs admission and daily assessment. Communicates with physicians/Nurse Manager/co-workers, as appropriate about changes in patient's clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptoms. Responsible for reassessments in all aspects of patient care. Formulates care plans that is individualized according to patient's needs. Responds quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Ability to revise plan of care as indicated by the patients response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. Changes and reevaluates care plans daily and is needed. Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians and other healthcare providers. Interpets data about the patient's status in order to identify each patient's age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group. Gives and receives comprehensive report on assigned patient's and delivers prompt, accurate, and sage nursing care. Understands the staffing matrix to maintain/improve unit productivity. Ensures all labs, x-rays, and other reports are reviewed and called to physician as necessary. Informs charge RN of changes in patient condition and confers with RN Charge nurse as to determine need before calling physician. Addresses patient and family concerns and directs concerns t RN Charge Nurse, director, and /or patient advocate, as needed. Keeps up with orders and notes orders timely and accurately. Ensures patient charges are documented. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide an interdisciplinary approach to the patient's needs. Monitors telemetry and reports abnormalities to charge nurse. As charge nurse or preceptor, may lead one or more employees performing similar work; supervise temporary employees; trains new employees; allocates and monitors work of others. As charge nurse, assumes responsibility of the department (clinical personnel), staffing, or patient issues.
Functional Position Requirements:
Job requirements include, but are not limited to: sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, squatting, lifting and reaching. Requires good finger dexterity, repetitive motions with hands and fingers. Requires ability to have good vision and hearing. Pushing and pulling equipment may be necessary.
