Responsibilities Promote the mission, vision, and values of SCA. Assess patient status throughout the perioperative episode of care. Develop an individualized perioperative patient plan of care. Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care. Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all sterile equipment, supplies, and instruments are ready for scheduled surgeries. Conduct thorough patient assessments pre- and post-operation, including vital signs, physical examinations, and documentation in paper and electronic health records. Implement infection control practices such as aseptic technique to prevent contamination and ensure patient safety. Monitor patients' physiological responses during surgery using physiology knowledge and critical care procedures; respond promptly to emergencies such as airway management or acute pain management needs. Document all nursing interventions accurately in medical records while maintaining HIPAA compliance. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiologists, radiologists (e.g., CT), laboratory staff, and case managers to coordinate comprehensive patient care. Support patients with special needs such as those with developmental disabilities or memory care requirements throughout perioperative phases. Participate in discharge planning and patient education to ensure smooth recovery post-surgery. Experience Proven experience working in an operating room setting with OR experience required; familiarity with aseptic techniques essential. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 of employment or documentation of current BLS certification. Successful completion of Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Course within 90 days of employment or documentation of current ACLS certification. Successful completion of Pediatric Advance Life support (PALS) course is required when pediatric care is included in the facility scope of services within 90 days of employment or documentation of current PALS certification. Specialty certification in Perioperative Nursing is preferred. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or special needs enhances your ability to deliver compassionate care in complex cases. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred for critical care scenarios. Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a fast-paced hospital environment that emphasizes trauma medicine, emergency response procedures, and acute care protocols.
