Full Job Description Position Title:

Exempt, Full-Time Position Summary:
Duties include the normal daily care of students with illness and injuries as well as the regular distribution of medications. The nurse position is responsible for maintenance and retention of school health records.
Essential Job Function:
Provides direct care utilizing professional assessment skills, the nursing process and established school health protocols Provides normal daily care of students with illness and injuries as well as the regular distribution of medications Serves as health advocate for students, their families and staff Notifies parents of accident or illness and secures medical care for students in emergency cases Coordinates management system to administer medications and treatments to students at school according to district policy, procedures and the Texas Nurse Practice Act Assesses student health problems and makes appropriate referrals working with students, teachers, parents, campus administration and medical and health care professionals as needed Provides health counseling and instruction to individual students as appropriate Participates in the building emergency response team and other school/district committees as requested by campus administration Reviews and maintains immunization records; notifies parents of needed immunizations and follow up with delinquencies Trains designated school personnel in clinic procedures, including administration of medications and emergency procedures if the nurse is not available and responsibilities according to district policy Compiles, maintains, and files all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required, including clinic records and accurate, updated health records on all students Maintains state required certifications in AHA/BLS and a health screener in vision, hearing Requisitions supplies and equipment needed to maintain clinic inventory Models behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible Follows directives and performs other functions that may be assigned by the campus/district administration Other duties as assigned
Essential Job Requirements:
Education
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred; Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Texas from the State Board of Nurse Examiners; Certified by Texas Department of Health to conduct vision and hearing screening; CPR Certification; American Heart Association/Basic Life Support for
Healthcare Providers Certification Required Skills and Capabilities:
Ability to evaluate students to identify health defects; Ability to interpret and implement policies and procedures; Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team
Preferred Skills and Capabilities:
Spanish Conversant; Experience working with students and parents in a public school setting or institution of higher education; Exceptional organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Physical Requirements
