Wesley Nurse (RN)Edna First United Methodist Church216 W. Main St. Edna, TX 77957Position SummaryThe Wesley Nurse RN provides holistic, person-centered nursing care that integrates clinical expertise, spiritual care, and a focus on social determinants of health (SDOH). The role serves individuals, families, and communities by addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs, promoting wellness, and connecting people to community and healthcare resources. The Wesley Nurse operates as a trusted advocate and educator, improving health outcomes through prevention, education, and empowerment.
SalaryAnnual salary rate begins at $74,246. Mid range at $94,664. Actual starting rate will be commensurate with experience and education.
Scope and ImpactThis position serves as the primary Methodist Healthcare Ministries (MHM) representative within assigned communities, providing outreach and care across multiple settings including homes, churches, schools, and local organizations. The role influences wellness outcomes for underserved populations, contributes to advancing health equity, and supports MHMs mission of Serving Humanity to Honor God. Travel occurs frequently within assigned regions, occasionally extending across MHMs 74-county service area.
Decision-Making AuthorityOperates with significant independence in daily clinical and community work, applying professional nursing judgment in varied environments. Collaborates with the District Manager and interdisciplinary partners while maintaining autonomy in prioritizing community needs and implementing care strategies.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesProvide holistic nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) at the individual and community levels (20%).Address social determinants of health by identifying and mitigating barriers to access and equity (15%).Integrate clinical and spiritual care, incorporating patients beliefs into care delivery (10%).Conduct health assessments and implement education, counseling, and preventive interventions (10%).Coordinate care and connect individuals/families to healthcare providers and community resources (10%).Build and maintain partnerships with churches, local organizations, and community stakeholders (10%).Apply evidence-based and relationship-based care approaches, including health education, advocacy, and motivational interviewing (10%).Identify community health needs and coordinate outreach and programming to promote wellness (5%).Advocate for systemic and policy changes that improve health outcomes (5%).Maintain professional competency and participate in continuing education (5%).Supervisory or Leadership ResponsibilitiesThis position does not supervise others but provides mentorship, guidance, and collaboration with peers and community partners.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications (Required)

Preferred QualificationsBachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)Two or more years in community health, public health, or faith community nursing. Bilingual in English and Spanish (required; preferred for fluency and cultural competence).Experience collaborating with multi-sector community partners.

Travel expectations: Frequent local travel within assigned community; occasional overnight travel within MHMs 74-county region.
Physical requirements: Ability to lift and maneuver up to 30 pounds; prolonged periods of walking, standing, and sitting; bending and climbing stairs required.

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications (Required)
Education:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.Licenses/Certifications:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas; current BCLS and CPR certifications required.Experience:
Minimum of one year in clinical and/or community health nursing.Other Required Skills/Knowledge:
Completion of a Faith Community Nurse course within two years of employment.Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to work independently in varied community settings.
