Position Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct and indirect nursing care to adult and geriatric patients (18 years and older). This role oversees patient care during assigned shifts, utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, and supervises delegated patient care activities performed by LPNs/LVNs, CNAs, and other support staff. The RN promotes patient safety, effective communication, teamwork, and compassionate care while maintaining compliance with professional nursing standards and hospital policies. Essential Responsibilities Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans. Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor changes in patient condition. Develop and coordinate discharge planning with patients, families, physicians, and the interdisciplinary care team. Make regular patient rounds to assess physical and emotional status. Assist patients with activities of daily living, vital signs, toileting, and respond promptly to call lights as needed. Administer medications, treatments, and nutritional therapies accurately according to physician orders. Monitor telemetry, respond appropriately to alarms, document findings, and report abnormalities. Document all patient care accurately and timely in accordance with hospital policies. Coordinate and delegate appropriate patient care tasks to LPNs/LVNs, CNAs, and other healthcare personnel. Communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. Participate in patient safety initiatives, infection prevention practices, and quality improvement activities. Maintain clinical competency through continuing education and professional development. Participate in interdisciplinary care conferences and required staff meetings. Follow emergency preparedness procedures and maintain familiarity with emergency equipment. Support the hospital's mission, values, and commitment to exceptional patient care. Perform additional duties as assigned. QualificationsEducation Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Experience Previous hospital nursing experience preferred. Licensure & Certifications Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas (or compact license if applicable). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 30 days of hire. Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required within 90 days of hire. Certifications must be maintained throughout employment. Skills Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patient needs. Basic computer proficiency and electronic documentation skills. Commitment to patient-centered, compassionate care.
