Responsibilities Perform comprehensive assessments of dialysis patients before, during, and after treatment Plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans for dialysis patients Set up, operate, monitor, and safely shut down dialysis machines and related equipment Maintain strict infection control practices and adhere to all dialysis and hospital safety protocols Administer medications and IV therapies as prescribed by the nephrologist or attending physician Monitor vital signs, fluid balance, and patient responses; recognize and respond to complications or emergencies Provide patient and family education on dialysis treatments, vascular access care, diet, and fluid management Accurately document assessments, interventions, and outcomes in the electronic medical record Collaborate with nephrologists, technicians, dietitians, social workers, and other team members to coordinate care Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, quality improvement projects, and staff meetings Support and mentor newer staff or students as needed to promote a cohesive, high-performing team Required Skills Hemodialysis treatment setup, monitoring, and termination Vascular access assessment and care (fistulas, grafts, central venous catheters) Patient assessment and clinical decision-making IV medication administration and fluid management Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation Infection prevention and control in dialysis settings Management of dialysis-related complications (hypotension, cramps, disequilibrium, access issues) Patient and family education and counseling Interdisciplinary teamwork and communication Time management in a fast-paced acute care environment Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) skills
