A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.
Provides direct care to surgical patients with primary emphasis on the intra-operative period and responsibility for pre-operative assessment and post-operative evaluation while applying age-specific needs in the assessment, treatment, and/or care of patients. Possesses substantial knowledge, judgment, and skill based upon the principles of the biological, psychological, behavioral, and social sciences. Must take call on a rotating basis.
Job Specific:
Participates in the safety management and infection control programs (EF). Performs, supervises, and/or directs the nursing care of the patient by performing the duties of the circulating nurse based upon hospital policies / procedures and the AORN Standards (EF). Directs and/or assists, as necessary, with the cleaning, sterilization, and storage of instruments, equipment and supplies (EF). Administers medications, starts intravenous infusions, and assists anesthesia personnel as needed (EF). Assists with the orientation of new personnel (EF). Takes call as assigned (EF).
Hospital:
Adheres to organization-wide and other applicable policies and procedures. Day-to-day performance complies with the hospital's Service Excellence Behavioral Expectations. Performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital's Ethics, Compliance and Confidentiality Program guidelines. Performs within professional Scope of Practice at all times.
