A Registered Nurse provides medical care and treatment, educates patients about their conditions, and provides emotional support to patients and families. Works in hospitals, schools, clinics or community health centers. Works under the supervision of a physician or other specialist, and serves as the primary point of care for patients in a hospital setting. May specialize in emergency room work, or treatment for a particular condition, or specialize in working with infants, the elderly or other patient groups. May work as an advanced practice specialists and prescribe medications in addition to offering specialty care.

Non-Exempt Summary:
To assist the school staff in providing the fullest possible educational opportunities for each student by minimizing absences due to illness and creating a climate of good health and well-being in the schools
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Maintains as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and nursing area as assigned 2. Follows all policies and procedures 3. Maintains up-to-date cumulative health records of students as required 4. Coordinates school health services with public health services as needed 5. Reports to parents, school personnel, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters as necessary 6. Assists with care for children with special needs 7. Prepares a list for administrators/teachers of students who have specific health problems that might require modifications of physical activities or seating arrangements in the class 8. Reports student/staff injuries and accidents to the building principal, assumes authority for care for those needing emergency assistance, and provides supervision for students until they are placed under their parents' care 9. Maintains contact with the local health department and assists in exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases 10. Assists school personnel in establishing sanitary conditions in schools

EXPERIENCE
Holds a valid state license as either a registered or licensed practical nurse
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license Valid Driver's License
