Saint Mary Star of the Sea School is a community rooted in the Catholic faith, dedicated to academic excellence and the spiritual development of our students. The successful candidate must be an enthusiastic role model who is passionate about sharing the Catholic faith, capable of working collaboratively with colleagues and school families, and demonstrate a commitment to advance the mission of the school. The School Nurse serves as the primary health professional for our school community. This role is responsible for providing high-quality clinical care, maintaining health records in compliance with state laws, and promoting a culture of wellness. The ideal candidate will be a compassionate professional who supports the mission of Catholic education.
RESPONSIBILITIES & TASKS
Clinical Care:
Provide first aid and emergency care to students and staff; manage chronic conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes, allergies).
Medication Administration:
Safely dispense prescribed medications according to physician orders and school policy.
Health Documentation:
Maintain accurate, confidential electronic health records; audit immunization records for state compliance.
Screening & Prevention:
Conduct annual vision, hearing, and postural screenings; implement infection control protocols.
Collaboration:
Act as a liaison between families, and school staff regarding student health needs or Individualized Health Plans (IHPs).
Spiritual Presence:
Model Catholic values of compassion and respect in all interactions with the school community.
QUALIFICATIONS
Licensure:
Valid and active Registered Nurse (RN) license (preferred) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in Virginia.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience; pediatric, emergency, or school nursing experience highly preferred.
Certifications:
Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
Faith Commitment:
A willingness to support and participate in the Catholic mission and identity of the school.
Communication:
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate medical information clearly to non-medical staff and parents.
