Job Description
Job Summary Seeking a dependable, compassionate individual to visit an elderly client at her nursing home for approximately one hour each week. The companion will provide friendly conversation and social engagement and pick up lunch for her before or during the scheduled visit. Responsibilities Visit once per week for approximately one to two hours on an agreed-upon day and time. Pick up lunch from a nearby restaurant and deliver it to the client. Sit with the client while she eats and provide friendly conversation and companionship. Offer encouragement and attentive social interaction. Provide notification of any significant concerns observed during the visit, such as changes in her mood, alertness, appetite, or general condition. Follow all nursing-home visitation, safety, and confidentiality requirements. Communicate promptly if unable to attend a scheduled visit. Important Boundaries This is a nonmedical companion position. The companion will not administer medication, provide nursing care, assist with transfers, make medical decisions, or perform personal-care services. Nursing-home staff should be contacted if the client needs medical or hands-on assistance. Qualifications Patient, kind, trustworthy, and comfortable interacting with an elderly nursing-home resident. Dependable transportation, a valid driver's license, and current automobile insurance. Reliable communication and the ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality. Previous experience with older adults, individuals with dementia, or nursing-home residents is preferred but not required. Must satisfy any background-check, health-screening, or visitor requirements established by the nursing home.
