Job Description

Registered Nurse (RN) - Correctional Facility (Night Shift)
Shift:
6:00 PM - 6:30 AM (12-hour night shifts)
Schedule:
Full-time; weekends and holidays as required based on facility needs The Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive nursing care to an incarcerated patient population within a secure correctional environment. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care while collaborating with healthcare providers and correctional staff to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and professional healthcare services. The RN must maintain clinical excellence, exercise sound judgment, and adhere to all facility policies and security protocols. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and document findings accurately and timely. Administer medications, treatments, and medical procedures in accordance with physician orders and established nursing standards. Monitor, evaluate, and document patient responses to treatment and medications. Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and provide emergency nursing care as required. Perform triage and prioritize patient care needs. Assess and manage acute and chronic health conditions. Monitor patients housed in medical observation or infirmary units. Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, mental health professionals, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Provide patient education regarding health conditions, medications, and treatment plans. Maintain accurate electronic and written medical records in compliance with facility policies and regulatory requirements. Participate in intake screenings, health assessments, and discharge planning as assigned. Adhere to infection control standards, safety regulations, and correctional facility security procedures. Ensure confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA and facility guidelines. Communicate effectively with correctional officers and facility staff while maintaining professional boundaries. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred. Previous correctional nursing experience preferred but not required. Minimum one (1) year of recent clinical nursing experience preferred. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Physical Requirements Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and move throughout the facility during a 12-hour shift. Work Environment The RN works within a secure correctional facility and may be exposed to challenging patient behaviors, communicable diseases, and emergency situations. Adherence to security procedures and professional conduct standards is required at all times. The Registered Nurse plays a critical role in providing quality healthcare services while supporting the safety, security, and well-being of both patients and facility staff.
