JOB SUMMARY
The Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse (Med-Surg RN) provides safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to adult and pediatric patients with acute and chronic medical and surgical conditions. The Med-Surg RN practices in accordance with professional nursing standards, regulatory requirements, and hospital policies to support comprehensive assessment, timely intervention, ongoing monitoring, and coordination of care throughout the hospitalization. The Med-Surg RN utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care; collaborates with the interdisciplinary healthcare team; and supports patient and family education, recovery, and safe transitions from admission through discharge. Care delivery is developmentally appropriate and family-centered, reflecting the unique needs of both adult and pediatric populations. This role requires sound clinical judgment, effective communication, and adherence to patient safety, quality, and documentation standards consistent with Joint Commission and CMS expectations. The Med-Surg RN is accountable for professional nursing practice under their own RN license and practices within the scope defined by state nurse practice acts and organizational policy. The Med-Surg RN may delegate and oversee care provided by assistive personnel and may assume charge or leadership responsibilities as assigned. The position reports to the department Director.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Associate in Nursing required, BSN preferred
Certifications/Licenses:
Active, Unincumbered Registered Nurse License in the State of Wyoming Basis Life Support (BLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Job Knowledge and Skills:
Applies strong clinical reasoning and critical thinking to care for adult and pediatric patients with acute and chronic medical and surgical conditions of varying acuity. Communicates effectively with patients, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to promote shared decision-making, patient education, and safe transitions of care. Maintains accurate, timely documentation in the electronic health record and adheres to patient safety, infection prevention, confidentiality, and regulatory standards. Functions effectively in a dynamic care environment, demonstrating professionalism, accountability, adaptability, and teamwork while balancing multiple patient needs. Practices within RN scope of practice and organizational policies and maintains required certifications.
