  • Full-time Job Summary The Referral Coordinator plays a crucial role in facilitating patient referrals within a healthcare setting.
This position involves coordinating communication between patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to ensure seamless access to necessary medical services. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, a thorough understanding of medical terminology, and experience in managing patient records while adhering to HIPAA regulations. Responsibilities Coordinate and manage patient referrals to specialists and other healthcare providers. Verify insurance coverage and eligibility for referred services. Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations. Utilize ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems for proper documentation of diagnoses. Communicate effectively with patients regarding their referral status and any necessary follow-up actions. Collaborate with medical office staff to streamline referral processes and improve patient care. Ensure all referral-related documentation is completed accurately and timely. Assist in resolving any issues related to managed care or insurance verification. Qualifications Previous experience in a medical office setting is preferred. Familiarity with medical terminology and coding systems (ICD-9, ICD-10). Strong understanding of insurance verification processes and managed care principles. Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail. Ability to handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines. Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant software applications. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with patients and healthcare professionals.
