We are seeking a dynamic and energetic Community Outreach Specialist to provide support to the front line customer service areas throughout the shelter with the primary focus being on the clinic reception desk under the direction of the Clinic Supervisor . This position will work directly with the admissions staff and adoption staff to ensure we are providing high quality customer service across all areas of the shelter. The COS - C primary role will be working in the shelters clinic to manage clinic appointments and schedules, assisting customers in person and on the phone, assisting with administrative duties as needed for the clinic to run efficiently. This position will also cross train, and learn processes and procedures for both the adoption front desk and the admissions front desk, and fill in for those departments as necessary. He/She must possess a deep commitment to improving the lives of people and animals in our community with a focus on keeping pets and people together, and must be able to work closely and effectively with other departments and HSVB volunteers. This is a full time, hourly (non-exempt) position primarily working Monday through Friday with occasional weekends and evenings as necessary. This position reports directly to the Clinic Supervisor (dotted line to CORE Manager).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Making and managing Clinic appointments and schedules. Assisting the Clinic staff with daily schedules to ensure they are aware of appointments scheduled. Assisting customers on the phone and in person with various requests and concerns. Thinks through every situation in a critical and open minded manner to be sure that we are providing the best possible solution to customers. Works with the Pathway Coordinator and CORE Manager to schedule appointments and share information about outreach services if needed. Works with the Foster Coordinator to schedule appointments and provides support to foster families. Educates visitors and callers about the benefits of Spay/Neuter, microchipping, vaccinations and other preventative services provided by our clinic. Participates in drive through clinics and community events as needed. Cross trains with Adoption desk to assist with the adoption process as needed Cross trains with the Admissions desk to assist with the admissions desk as needed. Works with the team to ensure the lobby in the clinic is clean and neat at the beginning and end of your shift. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:

Flexibility with work schedule, specifically in support of occasional events. Must be available to work weekends and holidays, as the shelter is open 7 days a week, 362 days a year.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, as well as move and traverse within the shelter facility for extended periods of time, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is required to communicate, converse with, convey information to, express oneself, and exchange information with shelter staff and the general public. The employee must regularly move, transport, and position items weighing up to 10 pounds, frequently moves, transports, and positions items weighing up to 25 pounds, and occasionally moves, transports, and positions items weighing up to 50 pounds. The employee is continuously exposed to animals, animal waste, potentially harmful cleaning chemicals, high noise and potentially hazardous conditions, including the risk of animal bites and working outdoors for extended periods of time during cold and extremely hot weather.
