Position Description:
Interviews patients and family members to obtain demographic and financial information needed for the registration process. Operates switchboard to route incoming calls and place outgoing calls in a courteous and professional manner. This is a PRN position with 12-hour shifts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for interviewing patients or their representative, for ER admission and outpatient procedures and obtaining personal information or verifying information already on file, including emergency numbers and insurance information. Responsible for verifying insurance eligibility. Responsible for obtaining signatures on consents and insurance forms. Records all accident information and other needed information in the files to ensure billing guidelines set by Medicare and Medicaid are followed with regard to other third-party coverage. Provides information to the patient/representative about the billing complaint process, patient rights and HIPAA. Distributes hospital specific literature. Organize ER charts alphabetically and make appropriate copies of paperwork and distribute to Team Health. Operates the switchboard duties efficiently, politely and processes calls as quickly as possible. Operates the ambulance radio and records traffic of all emergency units to and from the hospital. Pages authorized personnel as needed. Monitors various hospital equipment alarms. Calls Codes for the ER Staff and Disaster codes when necessary. Handles call back roster for emergency teams.
Requirements:
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of basic office equipment, computer knowledge required. Previous experience preferred but not required. Must have the ability to meet the public and good verbal communication skills. High school diploma or GED
