Job Summary:
The Patient Financial Representative serves as the primary point of contact for patients regarding billing, account balances, payment arrangements, and financial inquiries. This position is responsible for providing exceptional customer service while ensuring accurate account management, timely collections, statement review, credit balance resolution, and compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Job Duties:
Serve as the first point of contact for incoming patient phone calls related to billing, insurance, account balances, and payment questions. Respond professionally and courteously to patient inquiries, resolving issues or escalating concerns when appropriate. Educate patients regarding financial policies, insurance coverage, payment options, and account responsibilities. Review patient accounts for accuracy prior to statement generation and release. Investigate and resolve account issues that may impact patient billing or collections efforts. Research and reconcile patient credit balances. Process patient refunds and account transfers in accordance with organizational policies. Collaborate with third-party collection agencies when necessary (currently OneMNet Health). Perform detailed reviews of patient accounts prior to statement release. Review and process returned patient mail and statements. Coordinate with patients and internal departments to obtain accurate contact information. Assist with payment posting verification and account reconciliation as needed. Maintain confidentiality of patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations. Participate in departmental training, process improvement initiatives, and special projects. Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience in healthcare billing, patient accounts, revenue cycle, or customer service. Knowledge of medical billing, insurance processing, and patient accounting principles. Strong customer service and communication skills. Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR), practice management systems, and Microsoft Office applications. Ability to analyze account information and resolve billing discrepancies. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
