Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Receives and admits patients requiring hospitalization or outpatient services. Verifies patient demographic information and enters into computer system. Responsible for pre-certification of all required outpatient procedures including SDS procedures. The Admissions Clerk is responsible for notifying outpatients of co-pays and/or deductibles prior to visit. Will assist the Case Management Department with utilization management of all types of acute/observation patients.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
High school diploma or equivalency preferred; six months to one year related experience and/or training preferred;
Special Qualifications:
Knowledge of medical and managed care terminology. General knowledge of Governmental Rules and Guidelines (COBRA, EMTALA, SNF consolidated billing, etc.). Must have an understanding of hospital utilization review, admission certification process, and ICD codes. Must possess basic clerical skills, including experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, computer). Must have general computer knowledge.
