Mercy is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Associate (PCA) to join our Mother Baby Unit. Position Details:
What You'll Do Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you will provide direct patient care and support services, including: Assisting patients with daily hygiene and personal care needs
Supporting mobility, ambulation, repositioning, and comfort measures
Helping meet nutritional needs, including feeding assistance and intake documentation
Monitoring and documenting vital signs and patient information in the electronic medical record (EMR)
Identifying and promptly reporting changes in patient condition
Assisting with admissions, discharges, and patient transfers
Performing point-of-care testing or specimen collection as appropriate
Providing clerical support, including answering phones and responding to call lights
Collaborating with nurses and other healthcare team members to ensure high-quality patient care
Utilizing sound clinical judgment, strong time-management skills, and flexibility in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Experience We highly encourage applications from candidates with experience in: Patient Care Associate (PCA)
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Patient Care Technician (PCT)
Home Health Aide (HHA)
Caregiver or direct patient care roles
Hospital, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, long-term care, or home health settings Previous healthcare experience is valued, but not required. Qualifications Education/Exp One of the following: High school diploma or GED
CNA or Certified Patient Care Technician credentials
Enrollment in a healthcare career program through high school curriculum
Age 18 or older and eligible to participate in Mercy's UAP training program
Current Mercy co-worker
Previous patient care experience preferred but not required.
Training Candidates without prior qualifying experience will complete Mercy's 175-hour training program as part of orientation.
Training must be completed within 90 days of hire in accordance with state guidelines.
Certifications Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one month of hire
PCA competencies completed within three months of hire
Safety & Quality Our team members are committed to: Maintaining patient safety, privacy, and dignity
Practicing infection prevention techniques
Following fall prevention, patient identification, restraint management, and safe patient handling protocols
Supporting quality improvement initiatives that enhance patient outcomes
Physical Requirements Ability to regularly push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
Ability to bend, kneel, squat, twist, reach, and perform repetitive movements as needed
