Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
Is responsible for receiving all incoming patients to Emergency Room, processing direct admissions, and serving all patients requiring outpatient services. Completes and distributes all necessary forms obtaining necessary signatures, insurance information, etc. Obtains/ processes information on the hospital's Health Information Management System as required in performing job responsibilities. Responsible for receiving all calls through the switchboard promptly and courteously, paging and transferring calls to the appropriate destinations. Responsible for knowledge of third party payer and admission requirements and the collection of co-payments and deductibles at time of service. Responsible for all payments received during their shift, collecting patient receipts, balancing receipts to checks, cash, and credit card payment received prior to end of shift, and assures deposit made to Cashier on daily basis. Responsible for incorporating changes passed by the Revenue Cycle Director and Patient Access/Communications Director. Will assist in the creation of department policies and procedures and will assist in the training process of all new employees. Will be expected to continue education through in-house and external in-services. Performs basic duties as mentioned in Performance Responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School graduate with at least one year experience in the area of patient registration. Typing and computer skill. Ability to operate any office equipment; knowledge of cashiering. Ability to follow medical staff instructions Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to stay calm in emergencies. Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and prioritize accordingly. Able to adapt and incorporate any new tasks presented. Able to contribute ideas and solutions to the problems of the ever-changing emergency room environment. Ability to interact with the public in a professional manner and maintain good relationships with hospital personnel and staff physicians. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
