Job Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Intake Specialist to join our Durable Medical Equipment (DME) team. The Intake Specialist plays a vital role in ensuring a smooth and efficient intake process for patients by verifying insurance, collecting medical documentation, and coordinating with patients, healthcare providers, and internal staff. This position requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing exceptional customer service. Competitive pay based on experience.
Key Responsibilities:
Answer incoming calls and respond promptly to patient and provider inquiries. Gather, review, and verify patient information, prescriptions, and supporting medical documentation for DME orders. Verify insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations as required. Accurately enter patient and order information into the system and maintain organized electronic and paper records. Communicate with patients regarding required documentation, order status, and insurance requirements. Coordinate with referral sources, physicians' offices, and insurance companies to ensure all necessary documentation is received. Maintain compliance with HIPAA and all applicable healthcare regulations. Good customer service, good organizational and communication skills, and ability to self-manage while working as part of the Home Health team are required. Support other office and administrative functions as needed.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent (position requirements include high school diploma and ability to be trained. Background in medical and/or DME is beneficial, but not required. Some college or healthcare-related coursework preferred, but not required. A valid driver's license and insurability are required. Previous experience in DME, medical office, or insurance verification is beneficial, but not required. Strong knowledge of insurance procedures and medical terminology is also beneficial, but not required, if willing to learn. Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office; some experience with electronic health record systems is helpful. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
