Inpatient and Medical Surgical Job Summary Responsible for comprehensive nursing care and oversight of all patients cared for within the Inpatient setting, to include Medical, Surgical, Skilled and Obstetric patients, as directed by medical providers and in compliance with hospital policies. This position ensures management of nursing staff within the department while maintaining positive communication with other departments and the community. Ensures compliance with rules and regulations, and policies and procedures set forth by governing entities. Fiscal Be a good steward of PMC's financial resources such as time, money, and personnel.Review and respond to monthly departmental variance and/or productivity reports as requested by administration.
Manage and order department-specific supplies, services and equipment.
Ensure the department has posted, reviewed and corrected charges timely, if applicable. Communication Participate in facility-wide and department communication huddles and all required meetings.
Foster open communication and teamwork within and outside of your department.
Submit and/or present Quality Improvement, Governing Board and other reports as requested by Administration. Personnel Provide fair, constructive and timely feedback towards performance expectations and goals.
Ensure employee orientation and training/competency at 90 days post hire, on an annual basis and as needed. Effectively recruit and retain personnel.
Review and approve timecards. Schedule ensuring proper coverage of the department.
Be active in and support service excellence and quality improvement initiatives. General Ensure complete and accurate documentation is generated for services provided by your department, if applicable.
Comply with federal, state, local regulations as well as organizational policies and procedures.
Formulate departmental policies, interpreting current regulations and procedures.
Assists with direct patient care and call shifts for the department when needed. May have to fill short shifts or when patient load is high. Ensure electronic medical records of patients accurately reflect the patient's condition, progress, education and treatment. Involves all members of the medical care team, the patient, and their families in treatment plans.
Exhibit excellent customer services skills while providing high quality patient care. Has the ability to be resourceful and calm in an emergency.
Has knowledge of universal precautions and infection control policies; implements, supports and enforces policies with self, patient, medical care team, visitors and fellow staff members.
Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations; calls for assistance from health care support personnel when needed.
Assist with the development of patient and/or employee educational material.
Investigate all reports of incidents or accidents within the department and implement measures for corrective action. Demonstrate Job Knowledge Responsible for overall administration and coordination of inpatient care services and activities of the nursing staff; to include patient care coordination with other departments.
Ensure compliance of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA).Monitor progress on survey compliance issues when deficiencies are noted.
Administer the effective distribution and utilization of nursing personnel based on patient acuity/needs and staff competence.
Ensure necessary equipment and supplies are available and in working order as needed. Demonstrate interactions with patients and families through routine patient rounding; addressing issues/concerns as necessary in a timely manner. Lead initiatives to improve clinical practices and processes to ensure daily operations; identify improvement opportunities and actively seek problem resolution.
Establish departmental standards for workflow and delivery of patient care to ensure compliance, efficiency and patient satisfaction.
Maintain high visibility by making regular rounds with staff, providers and patients; addresses concerns/issues as they arise.
Maintain a productive and positive working relationship with the medical providers.
Assume the Chief Nursing Officer responsibilities in his/her absence when needed.
