Performs clerical and receptionist functions for the unit, in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures, answers inquiries of a general nature by nursing staff, physicians, patients and families, and carries out principles of positive guest relations.Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent Clerical experiencePreferred:
Previous customer service and/or MD order entry experience Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications, such as MS Word and Excel Knowledge of Medical terminology Must be flexible with time and able to work with a very diverse employee and patient populationsScheduling Requirements:
Evening Shift, 3:00am-11:30pm Rotating weekends and holidaysFull-Time Essential Functions:
Performs the following receptionist functions for the nursing unit in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures: Answering the telephone within 4 rings professionally, Answering the call bell via intercom system professionally, activating the paging system for both routine and emergency use, Coordinating patient admissions, transfers and discharges with other departments, and carries out the principles of positive guest relations Demonstrates the ability to perform clerical functions required on the nursing unit in accordance with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures by competently utilizing the EPIC computer system for the following purposes: report retrieval, census updates related to admissions, and transfers and discharges Demonstrates the ability to photocopy medical records per policy and maintain a log of the unit's activity Follows Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital policies and procedures related to dress code, reporting to work on time, adhering to mandatory annual training requirements, attending Unit Clerk meetings, use of appropriate ID badge, and patient confidentiality Applies the knowledge and skills necessary as they relate to the patient population served on his/her assigned unit Demonstrates good communication and customer service skills as they relate to the patient population served Demonstrate an awareness of patient safety initiatives at RWJUH, including but not limited to: The current National Patient Safety Goals, Federal, state and voluntary regulatory standards, Unit or departmental specific safety initiatives Participate in the Infection Prevention and at least one other patient safety initiative while exhibiting an understanding of and compliance with RWJUH protocols, policies and procedures Demonstrates proper handwashing techniques and participation in unit or department-specific infection prevention projects Handwritten information is readable when assessed Adheres to the current RWJUH Prohibited Abbreviations, Acronyms and Symbol listing Reports errors, high risk events and near-misses to his/her immediate supervisor for proper follow-up Completion of online patient safety educational program with a score of 80 or higher Demonstrates understanding of information communicated through newsletters, bulletin boards, and memosOther Duties:
