Job Description
Under immediate supervision of the Director, healthcare providers and the Director of Nursing, the Medical Office Assistant will assist physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses in the delivery of Healthcare Services. The incumbent will coordinate equally with the Office Manager and administrative office support staff to perform related duties as required to ensure smooth daily office operations. Office Assistant 70% Performs medical office front desk and receptionist responsibilities Acts as receptionist and coordinates all front desk operations Answers phones; acts as reference for students' questions Accurately enters appointment reason and type when scheduling Posts student fees/credits to Banner database Processes student cash transactions for applicable charges Assist students with making specialist appointments and procuring transportation when necessary; issues insurance referrals Maintains both paper and electronic student health records Performs administrative support responsibilities for the Department Assist with all aspects of incoming class paperwork Processes and organizes all incoming student health and immunization records; assists with Immunization Compliance Management Collect and enter immunization data into the electronic health record system Effectively communicates with students regarding immunization compliance deficiencies 2. Medical Assistant 30% Under the supervision of the Director and Healthcare Providers, assists professionals with the delivery of healthcare services to the patient population Identifies patient's chief complaint and records observation in the medical record Prepares patients for examinations and treatment by provider Performs diagnostic tests and procedures as directed from Health and Wellness Center providers, that may include tests in our CLIA-waived lab: rapid strep screens, urine pregnancy and urine analysis; packages specimens for transport to diagnostic labs per specimen requirements Maintains inventories, orders supplies and stocks exam rooms Administers medical assistance Follows OSHA guidelines Uses personal protective equipment when appropriate Performs vital signs (BP, HR, RR, Temperatures, O2 saturation), height, weight, BMI, vision screen and records on medical record Coordinates biohazardous materials disposal Assists health care provider with treatments and procedures such as wound care, pelvic exams and minor procedures Prepares and administers medications and IM immunizations/vaccines Follows universal precautions Displays qualities that promote professionalism; effective communication skills; knowledge of legal concepts, instruction and operational functions Works as a member of the Health Care Team Prioritizes and performs multiple tasks Enhances skills through continuing education Recognizes and respects cultural diversity Uses medical terminology appropriately Performs within legal and ethical boundaries Prepares and maintains medical records Complies with HIPAA regulations
