Job Description:
Monday - Friday (8:00am - 5:00pm) Provides high-quality data entry by abstracting required state and national trauma data elements from patient charts in real time and retrospectively. Participates in quality assurance, data validation, and improvement activities to ensure accurate data collection and timely submission according to State Trauma Registry and ACS standards. Keeps the registry current, ensuring it is 80% complete within 60 days of patient discharge as defined by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Determines the appropriateness of patient entry into the Trauma Registry based on ACS guidelines and the National Trauma Data Standard. Understands and validates mapping concepts of registry software for Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), National Trauma Data Bank (NTDB), and the state. Resolves routine coding issues and seeks assistance from Trauma Program leadership or Trauma Registry vendor when necessary. Recognizes patterns of mechanism and injury during case abstraction to contribute to injury prevention and community safety opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to use computers, including word processing, spreadsheets, graphics, messaging (E-Mail), database management, and report writers. [Required] Knowledge of ICD-10 Coding. [Required] Ability to work independently on assigned projects and to recommend improvement to the process of collecting, maintaining, and reporting patient information. [Required] Ability to establish productive relationships with a wide variety of healthcare professionals. [Required] Ability to maintain accuracy and consistency and to compile complex reports. [Required] Ability to navigate websites, download reports, forward reports to appropriate entities, departments, regulatory agencies, and committees. [Required] Computer proficiency including skills in Microsoft Word and Excel as well as familiarity with Meditech. [Required] Ability to demonstrate communication and collaboration skills with a variety of professional staff and patients. [Preferred] Ability to analyze and interpret data; ability to organize workflow, function independently and manage own time and work tasks. [Preferred] Working knowledge of databases is a plus. [Required]
Education:
High School Grad or Equiv [Required]
Work Experience:
1+ administrative support in a healthcare setting [Preferred]
Licenses and Certifications:
Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) [Preferred] Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) [Preferred]
