A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

  • Respiratory Therapist Duties & Responsibilities:
  • + Assess, treat, and monitor patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary conditions.

+ Administer oxygen therapy, aerosol medications, and respiratory treatments.

+ Operate and monitor ventilators and other respiratory support equipment.

+ Perform diagnostic testing, including pulmonary function tests and arterial blood gas sampling.

+ Respond to respiratory emergencies and participate in rapid response or code teams.

+ Educate patients and families on respiratory care, medications, and equipment use.

+ Monitor patient response to therapy and report changes to the healthcare team.

+ Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • + Current, valid, and unrestrictedCA license/certification in good standing, as required for the position.

+ Minimum 1+ year within the last 3 years as Respiratory Therapist.

+ Additional certifications may be required

+ Copy of current, completedPrimary Source Verification (PSV) from the appropriate licensing board or verification agency, if required.

+ Copy of all current required certifications and compliance documents (e.g., .

BLS, N95

fit test, immunization records, TB test, or other client-specific requirements).
