A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description

Every day, under medical and departmental direction, you'll deliver essential respiratory care per physician orders and policies. You'll ensure critical care services are met, meticulously manage equipment, and adapt care plans to optimize patient outcomes.
To be successful, you'll combine strong clinical expertise, meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication, and a compassionate approach, directly contributing to healing and recovery in critical care. Communicates effectively with the patients including all the following: a. Acknowledges and identifies patient two patient identifiers b. Introduces self as a respiratory therapist c. Describes therapy involved and how long it will take d. Ends therapy properly Communicates well with fellow therapists including the following: a.
Patient hand off thorough report on patients b.
Clearly informs others of issues not directly related to patient care c. Seeks guidance, direction, and assistance when needed d.
Uses chain of command e.
