JOB SUMMARY
The Respiratory Therapist Assistant is a transitional support role for individuals in their final semester of an accredited Respiratory Care program or recent graduates pending licensure. This position provides hands‑on experience within the Respiratory Department, supporting equipment processing, setup, inventory, logistics, and observation of clinical workflow. The Respiratory Therapist Assistant is Designed to prepare the student for eventual licensure as a Respiratory Therapist.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Other duties may be assigned. Equipment Processing & Safety
  • Clean and process respiratory equipment according to NCH procedures.
  • Maintain infection-control standards and proper PPE use.
  • Assist with disinfecting workflows and safe disposal of contaminated materials.
  • Follow isolation precautions and hand hygiene protocols. Inventory, Supply & Logistics
  • Restock durable and non-durable respiratory equipment.
  • Pick up supplies from Central Supply and stock the main RT room.
  • Check in new equipment deliveries.
  • Assist with ordering equipment.
  • Assist with chart audits, charge audits, and consult audits. Departmental Support
  • Support daily respiratory department operations.
  • Make staffing-related calls when needed.
  • Assist managers and supervisors with administrative tasks not related to direct patient care.
  • Perform Joint Commission rounding to ensure compliance. Clinical Exposure
  • Observe respiratory therapy procedures.
  • Observe patient education tasks under direct RT supervision.
  • Observe the setup for bronchoscopies, intubations, and advanced airway procedures. Restrictions
  • No independent patient care tasks are permitted.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Enrolled in the final semester OR recently graduated from an accredited Respiratory Care Program.
  • Must sit for the Florida Respiratory Therapist licensure within 6 months of graduation and: o Transfer into a Respiratory Therapist position OR o Those who do not pass on the first attempt will be allowed to make one additional attempt to be completed within 6 months.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association required.
  • Intermediate computer skills required (Word, Excel, Outlook, Windows).
