A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Required Qualifications:
Associate's degree in respiratory care Illinois RT license (or within 6 months) CRT (NBRC) BLS (AHA)
NRP & PALS
within 90 days (effective July 1, 2025) ​
Preferred Qualifications:
ACLS NPS and/or ACCS credentials RT 2•Associate degree in respiratory care; Bachelor's preferred CPR/BLS•American Heart Association Current IL state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist (or within 6 months of hire) Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) through NBRC (or within 6 months of hire)
NRP & PALS
within 90 days (effective July 1, 2025) RT 3•Associate degree in respiratory care; Bachelor's preferred 3 years of previous job-related experience CPR/BLS•American Heart Association Current IL state licensure as a Respiratory Therapist Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) through NBRC Our Promise to

Compensation:
Respiratory Therapist II Pay Range:
$36.50•$48.84 per hour
Respiratory Therapist III Pay Range:
$36.50•$50.71 per hour Actual compensation will fall within the range but may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, education, location, licensure, certification requirements, and comparisons to colleagues in similar roles.
