A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Responsibilities include collaborating with physicians to develop treatment plans, performing diagnostic tests, administering therapies, monitoring equipment, documenting patient progress, and educating patients and families. The role requires independent assessment and treatment, working effectively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Qualifications:
Minimum one year of recent experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) RRT credential from the NBRC Valid respiratory therapy license per state regulations Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC) Preferred certifications include ACLS or PALS, with additional licenses as needed. Key skills include critical thinking, strong communication, technical proficiency, physical stamina, and the ability to work under pressure. The role demands effective interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and physical capability to handle equipment and patient care tasks.
