What they do
A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Overview
Job Summary
Provides respiratory care using critical thinking skills learned and refined through education and experience as a Respiratory Therapist. Demonstrates these skills by successfullypleting examinations administered by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and earning the credential CRT. Provides a caring relationship that facilitates health and healing. Performs other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Required Experience Recent clinical respiratory care experience (hospital, home care, skilled nursing facility) and/or previous respiratory care practice. Current state license.
Preferred/Desired Experience
1 year hospital experience.
Minimum Required Education
State license and/or "RRT" credential in accordance to the National Board of Respiratory Care. Current state license.
Minimum Required Training
Hospital and Departmental Orientation. Successfulpletion of Hospital and Departmental orientation.
Minimum Required Special Skills
Computer literacy. Basicputer knowledge using Windows Operating system and Microsoft Office.
Minimum Required Licensure
Successfulpletion of entry and advanced level exams for RCPs. ABG endorsed, if applicable. RRT;BLS
