A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Second Shift (United States of America) Respiratory Therapist - Inpatient - Bellevue Medical Center Nebraska Medicine is seeking a talented individual to join us as a Respiratory Therapist at Bellevue Medical Center! Doctors at Nebraska Medicine offer advanced treatment for pulmonary diseases allowing our Respiratory Therapists a variety of options. Duties:
Respiratory Therapist Responsible for patient care assessment, critical thinking and knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. Develops and implements effective patient care, treatment, and cardiopulmonary disease management. Provides respiratory therapy procedures and/or modalities in areas such as emergent, acute, surgical, chronic and/or ambulatory care settings for a variety of patient populations.
Required Qualifications:
Respiratory Therapist
  • High school education or equivalent required.
  • Associate's degree in respiratory care required.
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (LRCP) from the State of Nebraska required.
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential required.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the NBRC within two years of hire required.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills required.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, teamwork, and flexibility required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, must be from an American Heart Association (AHA) endorsed program (effective for new hires starting January 1, 2023 or later).
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advance Life Support (PALS) and/or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) by patient care area/unit or department dependent required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Respiratory Therapist
  • Based on position, prior experience in respiratory therapy preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Based on position, the ability to demonstrate competence with all ages preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook Email preferred.
  • Experience with patient care equipment and supplies preferred.
  • Experience in electronic health record systems preferred.
