A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Description Essential Job functions : Demonstrates sound clinical practice in performing Pulmonary Function Tests Calibrates PFT machine according to manufacturer's specifications . Verbalizes understanding of record keeping procedure related to PFT's. Maintains constant flow of patients. Prepares the examination room. Escorts patient into the room. Cleans examination room when exam is complete. Document reason for visit.
Obtains vital signs:
BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required. Maintains all PFT charts in an orderly manner . Verbalizes appropriate medical waste disposal. Communicates effectively with manager and office staff. Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures. Maintains supplies for PFT procedures and equipment. Communicates repair orders to appropriate personnel. Performs accurate daily appointment reconciliation. Communicates problems to Nurse/Physician.
General Job functions:
Responsible for assisting physician, PA or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care and procedures. Other job duties as required.
Physical Job Requirements:
Pushing and pulling, taking frequency and weight into consideration. Physical strength to lift heavy objects, carts, or items, taking frequency and weight into consideration. Physical mobility, which includes movement from place to place on the job, taking distance and speed into account. Physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place. Dexterity of hands and fingers. Balance is maintained during climbing, bending and/or reaching. Endurance (e.g. continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, walking).

Chemicals, Chemotherapy and Fumes Loud noises Vibration Extreme temperatures Confined spaces
Allergens:
dust, mold and/or pollen Magnetic fields
Radiation Sharps Latex Blood-borne Pathogens:
Exposure to infectious hazards, blood, body fluids, non intact skin, or tissue specimens. Contact with patients or patient specimens are possible. Unplanned or unexpected exposure.
Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:
High School/GED required.
Vocational / Technical
School / Diploma Program preferred. Medical Assistant Certification preferred. Completion of onsite training for certificate of achievement within 90 days of start date. Ability to operate diagnostic/patient care equipment required. Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days of hire required. Previous knowledge and experience in pulmonary function testing required. Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Ability to perform diverse work assignments with time limitations with a high degree of accuracy. Experience with Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail) preferred. Experience with Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment preferred. Experience with patient care equipment preferred. Experience with EHR, Practice Management System and Departmental/Ancillary Systems preferred.
Travel:
Ability to commute to satellite offices as needed. Pay Range:
$26.59 - $33.27 Hourly The provided compensation range is based on industry standards and salary determinations will be made based on numerous factors including but not limited to years of experience and location of position.
