Non-Exempt s to: Technical Director, Respiratory Position Summary The Pulmonary Function Technologist provides non-invasive testing of patient lung function as it relates to size, airway resistance, diffusion capacities and exhaled Nitric Oxide levels. Also measured are responses to bronchodilators, antagonistic medications as well as exercise induced airway reactivity. Oxygen Oximetry with exercise, and Overnight O2 measurements are also provided. Following:
Understands and ads to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors. Demonstrates knowledge of accepted standards, policies, procedures, staff responsibilities and instrumentation related to provision of diagnostic pulmonary function testing. Demonstrates proficiency in the calibration and operation of laboratory equipment and performance of diagnostic pulmonary function testing. Demonstrates proficiency in patient assessment, clinical aerosol delivery and emergency management procedures related to performance of diagnostic pulmonary function testing. Provides appropriate instruction/education to patients, family members and physicians. Performs other duties as assigned. Education & Experience Requirements Associate degree or equivalent in respiratory care as recognized by the New York State Board for Respiratory Therapy Applicants must hold a current and valid New York State Respiratory Therapist License.
  • Must Pass the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Registry Examination (RRT) (written and simulation exams). Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (Respiratory Therapist).
  • Credentials obtained after July 1, 2002, must be maintained through the Credential Maintenance Program of the NBRC.
This program does not affect credentials achieved before July 1, 2002 CPFT or RPFT specialty credential preferred. Computerpetency, including basic understanding of, and ability to work with, Microsoft Windows based pulmonary function software programs Must hold a current American Heart Association BLS thru the American Heart Association ACLS thru the American Heart Association. Core Competencies Demonstrate Excellent Customer Service Skills Able to understand andmunicate (spoken/written) English Detailed orientated and possesses stronganizational skills Able to deal professionally and efficiently with all staff and levels of management and external customers Self-starter, self-motivated and able to work independently Flexible,anized and able to assess priorities Excellent written and oralmunication skills Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital's SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital's Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access). A copy of the SDS data base can also be found at the hospital switchboard, d on a disc. Ability to lift up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 10 pounds. Even though the weight lifted may only be a negligible amount, a job is in this category when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree.
