Position Summary The Director of Respiratory Therapy leads and manages all respiratory care services within the SNF, ensuring high-quality patient care, regulatory compliance, and efficient departmental operations. This role collaborates closely with nursing, medical staff, and administration to support residents with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions. Key Responsibilities Oversee daily respiratory therapy operations, including staffing, scheduling, and workflow optimization Ensure compliance with federal, state, and facility regulations (CMS, OSHA, infection control standards) Develop, implement, and monitor respiratory care plans (oxygen therapy, ventilator support, aerosol treatments, trach care) Supervise, train, and evaluate respiratory therapy staff; lead hiring and performance management Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams on care planning and outcomes Maintain accurate documentation and ensure timely charting in EMR systems Manage department budget, equipment procurement, and maintenance Monitor quality indicators, reduce hospital readmissions, and lead performance improvement initiatives Ensure proper infection prevention and control practices are followed Provide education to staff, residents, and families on respiratory care Qualifications Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required; state licensure required Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field preferred 5+ years of respiratory therapy experience; 2+ years in a supervisory or leadership role preferred Experience in SNF, long-term care, or post-acute setting strongly preferred Strong knowledge of ventilator management, pulmonary rehabilitation, and chronic disease management (COPD, CHF, etc.) Familiarity with EMR systems and regulatory standards (CMS, Joint Commission a plus)
