A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.
Under the direct supervision of the clinic director, responsibilities of the Technician include: Applying basic techniques in therapy. Supervises patients. Assists in preparing patients for prescribed treatment, such as: Positions and drapes patients Performs pre-employment and random drug screens and breath alcohol testing as applicable Assists in moving the patient to the treatment area, the building, and/or transfers General housekeeping and maintenance in the department and restrooms. Maintain current and accurate documentation. Seeks appropriate guidance regarding questions concerning specific patient care issues. Maintains good work habits. Contributes to the WTRC team. Exhibits outstanding customer service. This position requires the ability to read, write, and communicate ideas, as well as being able to understand simple anatomy and physiology. Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset individuals. The ability to lift, walk, and stand for long periods of time is required.
