What they do
A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Current Respiratory Therapist Licensure in the state of Virginia. Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with the National Board for Respiratory Care. Current American Heart Association BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire date. Three or more years of previous experience in all aspects of cardiopulmonary services, preferred. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate actions. Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
