A Respiratory Therapist assists patients who have trouble breathing because of a chronic respiratory illness, trauma, or other conditions. Administers tests to diagnose breathing problems, performs treatments to help patients breathe easier, or sets up breathing equipment such as ventilators. Works closely with physicians and other healthcare workers, and may also assist in providing emergency care to patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning, or shock. Works in hospitals; may also provide care and counseling to patients in their homes.

Job Responsibilities:
Administers or supports pulmonary diagnostic testing for patients based on ATS standards Develops exercise prescription and risk factor modification by incorporating comorbidity and musculoskeletal disorders, per established program (ACCVPR, ACSM, ATS, ACC, NASM) standards and guidelines, as evidenced by random chart review. Develops Individual Treatment Plans through physical assessment and testing to include exercise and strength training programs, patient education and behavioral health support specific to each patient to achieve optimal outcomes for each patient. Provide multimodal patient education for patients based on individual treatment plan Demonstrates proper instruction and technique for performing appropriate exercise and strength training as needed to ensure patient safety and adherence to exercise prescription, as evidenced by direct observation. Immediately reports significant changes in patient clinical status to appropriate members of healthcare team and assists with emergency care according to department policy, as evidenced by direct observation. Supports process for delivery of care from direct patient and family communication, technology, and other healthcare team member collaboration. Supports additional projects and duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited CoArc (The Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) respiratory program.
