JOB SUMMARY
Duties include, but are not limited to, assessing the respiratory status of individuals of all ages, emergency response, mechanical ventilation, invasive and noninvasive procedures, equipment maintenance, trouble shooting, maintaining the arterial blood gas system, and patient transport. Respiratory Care Clinical Practice Guidelines are the standard of care used to base all modalities of therapy on.
DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE
The Respiratory Services staff is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is scheduled for 24-hour shifts. The responsibilities of the department include patient assessment and treatment decisions, suctioning, mechanical ventilation, arterial line placement, critical care transport, PFTs, ambulatory oxygen monitoring, continuous bronchodilator therapy, intubation, oximetry, colorimetry, oxygenation, blood gases, humidification, nasal/mask CPAP, sputum induction, asthma management, and EKGs that are needed for the patients within the hospital. Practitioners follow standards of care that are outlined in the "Clinical Practice Guidelines" established by the American Association of Respiratory Care. Patient populations include general medical, surgical, oncology, orthopedic, cardiac, pediatric and geriatric patients in both inpatient, emergency, and outpatient settings. Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Graduate of an accredited program in Respiratory Care required.
Experience:
One
  • two years of acute care preferred but not required.
Licensure/Certification:
Certificate eligible, CRTT, registry eligible or RRT. Respiratory Care Practitioner-currently licensed by the State of Vermont.
ACLS, NRP, & PALS
certifications required (within 6 months of hire)
Current CPR Certification Mental Efforts:
Requires eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity. Normal or corrected vision/hearing. Potential exposure to blood/body fluids and communicable diseases. Helping and assisting with the lifting and/or moving of patients from one point to another. Responds to Codes in a rapid manner, including stairs. Environment & Working Conditions Some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids. Some exposure to hazardous chemicals. Potential for injury due to physical demands. Requires dealing with multiple priorities in a high stress environment.
