Job Summary Job Title Speech Language Pathologist Job Category Certified Department/Group Special Education Term of Contract 9 months (187 days) Location Local schools Travel Required Yes Level/Salary Range 9 month teacher Position Type Full Time Reports to Special Education Director and/or local school principals Job Description To provide speech language services to students and to consult and collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and staff. Responsibilities
  • Provide a thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech, language impairment through speech/language diagnostic procedures.
  • Maintain a thorough tracking system of identification process and referrals for Speech/Language services for assigned population.
  • Schedule and conduct referral meetings based on screenings, in conjunction with your school supervisor.
  • Attend all speech therapy eligibility determination committee meetings.
  • Maintain up to date Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs) and progress reports.
  • Provide for advancement of records when students move from one school to another.
  • Coordinate IEP annual reviews for Speech/Language with teachers in other exceptionalities.
  • Provide information and support to parents when appropriate.
  • Maintain required records regarding children's progress in therapy.
  • Assist with obtaining and utilizing Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices, if necessary.
  • Report programmatic needs as they are identified.
  • Provide a therapeutic program to meet individual needs of students with speech/language deficits.
  • Keep thorough ongoing records for each individual student receiving services.
  • Provide consultative services to regular or special classroom teachers, curriculum specialists, and parents and disseminates information on communicative skills development, special materials, and procedures to be used in helping children develop appropriate communication behaviors.
  • Recommends classroom speech improvement plans.
  • Coordinate the scheduling of students for therapy with the principal and teachers in the local schools.
  • Participate in professional development activities.
  • Be familiar with and follow Board of Education policies.
  • Execute all other reasonable job-related tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the Supervisor.
Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions may require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.
Qualifications/Education/Certifications:
As set by the State of Alabama certification authorities Board Approved October 19, 2021
