QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree from an accredited college/university Current Georgia Clearance Certificate Current Georgia Speech Pathologist License Desire to continue career improvement. Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
JOB GOALS
The Speech/Language Pathologist assists in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. In order to respond to the individual needs and abilities of students, the Speech/Language Pathologist must work closely with the staff and administration of the school district.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in developing speech and language skills to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students Assists in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems Conducts evaluations to assess students' skills, functional abilities, and participation in classroom activities Prepares detailed reports, including interpretation of assessment findings, and communicates the results to teachers, parents, and other district personnel Participates in IEP meetings and contributes to the development and review of the student's IEP, including completion of progress reports Administers speech services in accordance with students' IEPs Develops, administers, monitors, and adapts plans to ensure progress, including observation of their performance and responses to therapy toward the student's IEP goals and objectives Collaborates and trains teachers and designated staff on how to integrate strategies, accommodations, and/or appropriate devices into the classroom setting to ensure consistency Maintains accurate and confidential records of sessions, progress, assessments, and IEP documents in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA regulations Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and standards for speech therapy services and evaluations Engages in ongoing professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices and advancements in occupational therapy to maintain current Georgia licensure Establish a positive learning environment and respond to the individual needs of students Ensure that all activities conform to district and cooperative guidelines Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community Other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education Demonstrate prompt and in-person attendance Follows the Georgia Professional Standards for Educators
