JOB SUMMARY
The Speech Language Pathologist provides direct speech and language therapy to students and/or consultation with IEP team members. The SLP works with those children who exhibit deviations in the speech and/or language processes that are outside of the range of the acceptable variation within a given environment and which have an adverse educational effect.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily: Conduct a screening program in the fall of each year for students in kindergarten, new students to the district (as needed), children seen in therapy from the previous school year, and referrals Provide further evaluation and diagnosis for those children identified in the screening process as needing further attention Develop a schedule for speech and language therapy to serve children who have problems in the following areas: Articulation, Voice, Fluency, Expressive and Receptive Language (form, content, and use), Syntax, Hearing, and Pragmatics Participate in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) as a multidisciplinary team member Provide progress reports on a regular basis to the child's parents/guardian and classroom teachers Consult with educators, parents/guardians, and support staff regarding speech/language concerns Provide in-service training when requested concerning material, methods, and techniques used to help the students with speech/language needs Maintain an accurate system of records as they relate to the speech/language services Provide case management services for students with primary speech/language disabilities Assist in the requisition of appropriate materials to be used with students with identified speech/language needs Make appropriate referrals to community agencies, as necessary Participate in the Medicaid reimbursement program by submitting data to the system in a timely manner All other duties as assigned by administration
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology
EXPERIENCE
Two years of school-based experience is preferred Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) preferred Spanish or French language proficiency Prefered Strong oral and written communication skills in English and Spanish or French
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Highly organized Excellent communication and collaboration skills Creative Excellent problem solver
LICENSES/CREDENTIAL
Licensed by the ISBE and IDFPR as a Speech Language Pathologist
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and Benefit information can be found on the Human Resources webpage. There are many opportunities for employees to earn additional compensation (stipends, differentials, extra duty pay, etc.) during the regular school year and in the summer. This is a position within the collective bargaining unit and is not an administrative position. This is an exempt position. Student Contact Days and other days stipulated on the work calendar in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
