Purpose of Position:

To provide diagnostic and treatment services for patients referred with neurological, speech, language, voice, fluency, swallowing and/or related disorders.

Description:

Evaluates disorders of referred adult and pediatric patients utilizing written and verbal diagnostic testing procedures with associated equipment to determine the extent of patient's impairment and the prognosis for improvement. Identifies pertinent patient problems. Sets objective, measurable treatment goals, incorporating patient's goal(s) for functional outcome. Establishes a treatment plan based on patient needs and patient family input. Performs treatment procedures with appropriate individual or group therapy utilizing a variety of techniques and equipment and adapts techniques to meet the needs of patients. Reevaluates patients, modifies treatment plan and procedures based on patient progress. Provides objective, analytic documentation of patient care, patient progress, and patient/family education, including periodic assessments and discharge summaries. Communicates effectively with medical/allied health personnel regarding patient progress, needs and discharge planning. Responsible for assisting management in the planning, development, and organization of speech services and programs. Assists in training/orientation of new personnel as requested. Participates in the clinical instruction of speech therapy students, as requested. Maintains supplies and equipment required for evaluation and treatment. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment programs, quality improvement initiatives, and safety, environmental and infection control standards. Attends meetings as required and enhances professional growth and development through approved participation in education programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops. Plans and presents inservice education and continuing education courses, as requested. Performs other work-related duties as assigned or requested. Speech-Language Pathologist Clinical Fellow
