What they do

A Speech Language Pathologist diagnoses and treats speech, language, and swallowing disorders in patients with a variety of conditions. Helps patients improve their ability to make sounds or use language, or develop non-spoken means of communication. May specialize in working with patients of a certain age group, or treat speech problems resulting from a condition such as a stroke or cleft palate. Works in schools, hospitals and other healthcare facilities and works closely with physicians, psychologists, social workers, and other therapists.

Job Description

The Speech Therapist provides quality direct patient care services according to the standards of the Maine Speech and Language Practice Act. Participates in the efficient operation of the Rehabilitation Department and supports all the hospital policies and procedures relevant to this position. Must be a graduate of an accredited Speech and Language Pathology program. Must hold a valid State of Maine License to practice Speech and Language Pathology. Must also have successfully completed Clinical Competency Certification as indicated by CCC. Experience preferred. Must be able to provide competent patient treatment and have good documentation skills. Must be proficient with computer applications. Ability to work independently.
