JOB TITLE
Speech-Language Pathologist
LOCATION
Campus as Assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Assists students with special communicative needs to use the maximum communication possible.
JOB GOAL
To provide a comprehensive speech-language program for children whose communicative disorder adversely affects the child's educational performance.
RESPONSIBLE TO
: Special Services Director
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Implements a screening and referral process for the identification of students in need of service. Conducts comprehensive speech-language assessments on all children referred. Obtains and uses diagnostic information from parents, school personnel, and various agencies regarding student performance and characteristics. Develops long- and short-range goals and objectives for students in need of services. Compiles and maintains appropriate student data records and progress reports. Implements a therapy program designed to meet the individual needs of students. Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development for keeping current with literature, new research findings, and improved techniques; and for attending appropriate professional meetings and/or conventions. Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students (e.g. testing/screening, IEPs, parent conferences, pre- referral staffing, etc. for the purpose of presenting evaluation results, developing treatment plans, and/or providing training to parents/students/staff. Instructs assigned support staff for the purpose of providing information on communicative disorders, use of assistive devices and feeding techniques and/or implementing prescribed treatment plans. Instructs eligible students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g. hearing aids, FM systems, augmentative communication disorders in accordance with established guidelines and legal requirements. Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (e.g. training, IEPs, team meetings, etc. for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information. Performs site visits at multiple worksites, including home visits, for the purpose of providing therapy and assistance as required.
