State Salary Schedule & Local Supplement General Statement of Job Performs difficult professional work locating, identifying and serving speech-language impaired students, preparing and maintaining student and program records, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Related Services Coordinator. Essential Job Functions Provides speech therapy services to exceptional children students. Evaluates, screens and observes students. Write evaluation reports, progress notes, and individualized education plans. Participates in individual education plan meetings with parents. Plans appropriate therapy instructions. Communicates with parents, teachers, administrators and coordinates therapy with the teachers and therapists. Schedules meetings with parents. Performs other related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Thorough knowledge of speech/language diagnosis and therapy principles, practices and procedures. Thorough knowledge of casework methods and procedures. Thorough knowledge of local, state and federal resources, programs, procedures, laws, rules and regulations. Skilled in the use of computer equipment. Ability to conduct interviews, assessments and diagnosis effectively and analyze needs and problems objectively. Ability to communicate ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, students, parents, staff and administration and the general public. Minimum Training and Experience Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology with coursework in Speech/Language Pathology North Carolina Board of Examiners License for Speech-Language Pathologist. North Carolina Teaching License as Speech-Language Pathologist (Area 88082). Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions This work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force. Work regularly requires speaking or hearing, frequently requires standing, walking and sitting and occasionally requires using hands to finger, handle or feel, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, lifting and repetitive motions. Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly or quickly. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data. Work occasionally requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
