Hourly, Job Shift:
Days, Oneida Health is in need of a per diem Speech Therapist 1 day per week. The Speech Therapy Therapist plays a vital role in identifying and treating patients with communication and swallowing deficits. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of speech therapy principles and techniques to address a wide range of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing disorders. The Speech Therapy Therapist works across various settings, including Long Term Care Facility, Acute Care Facility, and Outpatient settings, providing individualized treatment plans and assisting patients in improving their speech and swallowing abilities. Additionally, administrative tasks, such as record-keeping and patient evaluation, are integral parts of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Assess patients' levels of speech or language difficulty through communication and standardized tests. Develop and carry out individualized treatment plans as part of a multidisciplinary team. Assist patients in articulating sounds and improving voice quality. Teach alternative communication methods, such as Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) or sign language, to patients with limited speech capability. Work with patients to improve reading and writing skills. Develop and implement exercises to strengthen the muscles used in swallowing. Counsel patients and families on coping mechanisms for communication disorders. Maintain accurate records of patient evaluations, diagnoses, treatment progress, and changes in treatment plans. Complete final evaluations when patients finish therapy. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. (Required)
Experience:
Completion of a degree program associated with Speech-Language Pathology. (Required)
Licenses and Certifications:
New York State license for Speech-Language Pathology, along with a certificate of clinical competence. (Required) Limited license is required for Clinical Fellowship.
Professional Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in evaluating and treating speech, language, cognition, and swallowing disorders. Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans. Knowledge of alternative communication methods and techniques. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Compassion and empathy when working with patients and families. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team. ​​​​​
