Director of Special Education/School PrincipalQualifications:
- Appropriate Ohio School Speech-Language Pathologist License
- Able to communicate effectively in written/oral format.
- Knowledge of teaching approaches and techniques in modifying curriculum and instructional materials to meet individual student needs.
Specific Duties:
- Identify all East Cleveland students suspected of having speech and/or language impairments that are referred to the Intervention Assistance Team by principals, guidance counselors, employees, administrators, parents, and outside agencies.
- Diagnose and appraise specific speech and/or language impairments by administering an individual multi-factored evaluation as required in the State Rules for the Education of Handicapped Children.
- Refer suspected speech and/or language handicapped students for medical or other professional attention necessary for the habilitation of speech or language handicaps.
- Provide speech and language services for the habilitation or prevention of communication handicaps through conducting individual and /or group therapy sessions to correct/remediate specific communication disorders and/or through communicating and collaborating with parents, teachers and school personnel.
- Provide counseling, instruction, and guidance of parents, students, school personnel, and administrators regarding the treatment and prevention of communication disorders.
- Participate actively on the Intervention Assistance Team.
- Develop an IEP for each student identified as speech and/or language handicapped using data obtained from the multi-factored evaluation as required in the State Rules for the Education of the Handicapped and participate in the IEP Conference.
- Maintain complete files, records, and written progress reports on each student referred and/or served.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Administrator of Special Education Programs, Building Principal, or designee.
